Robinhood Adds Support For Ethereum Classic

Robinhood Adds Support: Robinhood Financial announced yesterday that it would launch Ethereum Classis (ETC) on its trading platform.

And it was no accident that it listed the coin one day before Coinbase was to add ETC to its exchange; the world’s biggest exchange had announced only a few weeks ago that it was in the final stages of testing and that ETC would be available as of August 7th.

Which is today.

But the announcement did outline that ETC would only be accessible for users with Coinbase Pro and Coinbase Prime accounts and that official trading would not go into effect immediately.

It could be mistaken, but it seems the fresher and much smaller Robinhood is trying to beat the big-dog to the punch by introducing ETC trading, a day before its competitor’s, supposed, launch date.

Ethereum Classic will be Robinhood’s sixth crypto offering on its platform.

Robinhood is a newly-launched crypto-trading platform which serves the US. It is expanding on a state-by-state basis and began with only four states earlier in 2018. It now has expanded to 19 states and has a current trading volume of $5.6 billion.

At present, the exchange offers Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Dogecoin (DOGE) and now Ethereum Classic (ETC). The platform also tracks market data for 10 other cryptocurrencies which may or may not be added in the months to come

Ethereum Classic Price Chart

Back in June, when Coinbase went public with its plans to support ETC, the value of Ethereum Classic shot up 23% in less than 24 hours. And it seems Robinhood could be creating a similar buzz. Currently, the coin is seeing a healthy 10% gain and stands at $19.15.

Or is this because Coinbase is purported to being supporting the coin today? Probably.

Coinbase Adding Ethereum Classic (ETC)

Coinbase adding Ethereum Classic (ETC): Announced earlier, it’s official – the cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase is adding support for a new token, Ethereum Classic!

Coinbase has long been the exchange that has only supported a few tokens, those being Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), and Bitcoin Cash (BCH). When Coinbase announced it was adding support for ERC20, the hope was that this meant the exchange would soon be adding other tokens to its list – and that hope is now realized.

“We are pleased to announce our intention to add support for Ethereum Classic (ETC) to Coinbase in the coming months. We are announcing this both internally and to the public consistent with our process for adding new assets,” Coinbase stated in its blog.

Right now, the crypto exchange is working on the engineering stage of adding a new asset. In this stage, public-facing APIs will be released, to keep up with transparency throughout the process of Coinbase adding Ethereum Classic.

In the next few months, Coinbase expects to reach “the final testing phase of the technical integration,” and at that stage, the exchange will announce the ETC launch date on its blog and Twitter page.

Coinbase is being extra careful in its process of adding ETC, no doubt because of the great debacle that occurred when the exchange tried adding Bitcoin Cash. Insider trading or not, Coinbase is making sure that doesn’t happen this time around.

All parts of Coinbase will be adding support for Ethereum Classic, from Coinbase Custody, Markets, Pro, Prime, all the way down to Asset Management. On Coinbase Pro and Coinbase Prime, any customer who had previously held ETC after the July 2016 Ethereum hard fork and who didn’t withdraw that ETC before January 2017 will receive credit for the amount of ETC they held.

Ethereum Classic will be available on Coinbase in all regions where it is compliant with local law.

Ethereum Classic (ETC) is currently selling for $15.41, which puts the coin up 22.51%. It looks like people are responding well to Coinbase’s announcement.

Were you expecting Coinbase to add Ethereum Classic? What token do you want to see supported by the exchange next?

VeChain Thor (VET) and Ethereum Classic (ETC)

The crypto market is struggling today, and many coins are down, including VeChain Thor (VET) and Ethereum Classic (ETC). However, despite all the red, the coins are progressing in their projects.

VeChain Thor (VET)

VeChain Thor (VET) is currently selling for $3.11, which puts the coin down 14.49% in the past 24 hours.

The VeChain Thor public testnet is now up and running, getting ready to go live at the end of June. Leading up to its mainnet launch, VeChain has announced several big partnerships.

The VeChain Foundation is joining the BMW Startup Garage program. There are still very little details about this partnership, but BMW may be one of the companies doing tests on the blockchain, maybe with the concept of supply chain in mind.

Another exciting collaboration for the cryptocurrency is its deal with Oxford University in Oxford, England. Details are still scarce for this partnership as well, but the university will in some way be working on the development of the VeChain Thor platform.

Are you excited about the future of VeChain Thor? Do you think the coin will be able to separate itself from the herd enough to start growing?

Ethereum Classic (ETC)

Ethereum Classic (ETC) is currently selling for $12.34, which puts the coin down 14.58% in the past 24 hours.

Ethereum classic was one of the seven coins approved by the Thai Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The other six coins included Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), Ripple (XRP), and Stellar (XLM).

The Thai SEC based its decision on the liquidity of the cryptocurrencies and on their consensus credibilities, among some other criteria.

ETC’s acceptance by the Thai SEC makes one more thing for the coin and its fans to celebrate at the upcoming Ethereum Classic Summit, happening in Seoul, South Korea from September 12th to 13th. Tickets for the event officially went on sale on June 9th.
