Coinbase App | Downloads are Dropping with Falling Cryptocurrency Hype

The bear market for Bitcoin (BTC) and all other cryptocurrency has dragged down Coinbase, the US’s most popular cryptocurrency exchange. Prices continue to plunge moving into Q3 of 2018, and the exchange’s download ranking for its Coinbase app has suffered because of this.

Dropping Hype

The Coinbase app has fallen to the download level it experienced in April of last year. In December, Coinbase soared to the very top of the US finance apps, in terms of downloads, as Bitcoin (BTC) hit its all-time record high. Since then, Bitcoin has lost around two-thirds of its value.

In June, Coinbase’s app fell to the 40th spot among the month’s finance app download ratings, according to Quartz. This time last year is when cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin (BTC) started making its way into major mainstream media sources, and that’s when all of the hype and popularity began.

As you can see from the chart above, in Q3 of 2017 the entire cryptocurrency market began its rise. In Q4 of 2017, Bitcoin was gaining nearly $1,000 in value a day, and Ethereum was rising just as quickly.

Everyone wanted in on the new digital currency everyone was talking about, but most entered without doing any research. A lot of investors that came in towards the latter half of 2017 were new to investing and had never seen the market hit red.

All of that changed in January, and people began to panic sell their digital assets after seeing it correct, and the market has suffered ever since. At the beginning of January the total market cap was over $800 billion, and currently, it is sitting at $250 billion.

After the hype faded and the market bubble popped, only those that truly believe in the blockchain and its worth have stuck around.

Although Coinbase app downloads are struggling right now, they could still see small rises as the market matures over time. Lucky for Coinbase, investors still have access to the web-based platform too.

The Best Cryptocurrency Exchanges! – Crypto Currency News

As cryptocurrency grew in popularity, so did the exchanges. With over 500 to choose from (and that number is growing weekly!) its a far cry from the earlier days of digital currency when your choices in exchanges were limited to around 8!

With that knowledge, we have compiled a list of some of the most reliable and popular exchanges out there to help you choose the best one for you. Every exchange varies in attributes; some support specific coins, some charge higher fees than others, some are more suitable for beginners with a simplified user-interface, and some simply can be location dependent.  It is recommended you do your research before joining an exchange so as to ensure you trust the platform with your coins. All the exchanges we list here are verified and popular, but always take your time before committing to any platform in the crypto space.

A common rule of thumb is to never store your coins on an exchange. Exchanges – being online – are at high risk for hacking and coins left on the exchange can be subject to thievery! So invest in a wallet to keep your coins safe. To help you choose one of those we compiled our favorite wallets list here.

But first, we need to get you some cryptocurrency! and to do that you need to find a good exchange. Read on to find out about our favorite ones.

Coinbase Adding Ethereum Classic (ETC)

Coinbase adding Ethereum Classic (ETC): Announced earlier, it’s official – the cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase is adding support for a new token, Ethereum Classic!

Coinbase has long been the exchange that has only supported a few tokens, those being Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), and Bitcoin Cash (BCH). When Coinbase announced it was adding support for ERC20, the hope was that this meant the exchange would soon be adding other tokens to its list – and that hope is now realized.

“We are pleased to announce our intention to add support for Ethereum Classic (ETC) to Coinbase in the coming months. We are announcing this both internally and to the public consistent with our process for adding new assets,” Coinbase stated in its blog.

Right now, the crypto exchange is working on the engineering stage of adding a new asset. In this stage, public-facing APIs will be released, to keep up with transparency throughout the process of Coinbase adding Ethereum Classic.

In the next few months, Coinbase expects to reach “the final testing phase of the technical integration,” and at that stage, the exchange will announce the ETC launch date on its blog and Twitter page.

Coinbase is being extra careful in its process of adding ETC, no doubt because of the great debacle that occurred when the exchange tried adding Bitcoin Cash. Insider trading or not, Coinbase is making sure that doesn’t happen this time around.

All parts of Coinbase will be adding support for Ethereum Classic, from Coinbase Custody, Markets, Pro, Prime, all the way down to Asset Management. On Coinbase Pro and Coinbase Prime, any customer who had previously held ETC after the July 2016 Ethereum hard fork and who didn’t withdraw that ETC before January 2017 will receive credit for the amount of ETC they held.

Ethereum Classic will be available on Coinbase in all regions where it is compliant with local law.

Ethereum Classic (ETC) is currently selling for $15.41, which puts the coin up 22.51%. It looks like people are responding well to Coinbase’s announcement.

Were you expecting Coinbase to add Ethereum Classic? What token do you want to see supported by the exchange next?
