eBay Not Accepting Cryptocurrency Payments

Earlier this week, there were rumors that eBay (NASDAQ:EBAY) is going to start accepting cryptocurrency as a form of payment. While the e-retailing giant did not confirm these rumours at the time, many thought it was true: the company’s banners at the Consensus conference indicated so. But it’s not true. And the company has now confirmed that.

Here’s everything we know.

eBay Accepting Crypto? Nope

It’s no secret that the list of companies that have started to accept cryptocurrencies, like Bitcoin, as payment is growing. And at a rapid pace, might we add. But not everyone is jumping on this train, despite rumours saying so. One company is eBay, which said yesterday, according to Bloomberg, that it is not accepting, nor is it planning to accept cryptocurrencies as a method of payment.

“Cryptocurrency is not accepted as a form of payment on the eBay platform, nor is it part of our payments strategy,” explained a spokesperson for the San Jose, California company.

Of course, this might come as a disappointment to some. When you combine this week’s increase in crypto prices with the company’s reach, in addition to its “Virtual Currency. It’s happening on eBay” billboards, one might have been convinced the rumors were true.

Then again, not everyone seems disappointed. After all, EBAY stock didn’t plunge on the market today. In fact, EBAY stock closed the day up 0.65%.

Never Say Never

Some companies don’t like to announce things too fast. Just because crypto payments are not part of eBay’s payments strategy right now doesn’t mean it won’t ever be. The company is clearly aware of the potentials of the industry, so we have to think it is not ousting the idea entirely.

What do you think? Do you think eBay should start accepting cryptocurrencies as a method of payment? Let us know in the comments below!

Bitcoin Payments | AT&T Customers Can Now Pay with Bitcoin

Mainstream adoption of cryptocurrency is slowly growing with the latest development being from AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) which has indicated that from today they will be accepting bitcoin payments as an option of paying for mobile bills.

AT&T customers to pay bills in crypto

AT&T is the first major telecom company in the US to provide the option of paying in crypto. AT&T’s Communication Business Operations VP Kevin McDorman stated that the company is always looking for opportunities for improving and expanding its services. He added that cryptocurrency has become popular nowadays and some customers use it and thus the company is glad to provide them with a payment option of their preference for their bills.

Customers will be allowed to make their mobile bill payments through BitPay in the myAT&T app or by login to the online account. The company has not specified whether the bitcoin payments can be used to pay for purchases of phones and accessories in AT&T stores. BitPay will be processing the crypto payments and then give AT&T a conventional currency.

Although the adoption of cryptocurrency is a significant step, for Joe McCann Passport Capitals’ former hedge fund manager, the move may have come maybe as a result of the company having internal data that shows that more people are using Bitcoin payments nowadays. He added that AT&T did not have an upside to support Bitcoin payments.

Mainstream Bitcoin payment growing

BitPay’s Chief Commercial Officer, Sonny Singh lauded the move by AT&T and the job they have done to make it happen. He added that more companies will soon start the following suit because the adoption of crypto payment by such a big telecom company will motivate competitors to consider joining the trend as most companies are eager to learn.

AT&T follows other major corporation in the US that Accept bitcoin payments such as Subway, Expedia, Overstock, Microsoft, and Shopify. Most recently Whole Foods and a number of retailers began accepting bitcoin payments through third-party partnership.

Buy Stuff with Bitcoin | Which Online Stores Accept CryptoCurrency?

At the time Bitcoin was launched, there were many skeptics who saw BTC merely as a passing trend that would eventually disappear as fast as it appeared.

But this has not happened. Now, nearly a decade later, Bitcoin is still very much with us today and has had a profound impact on the online trade industry.

Who would have thought something that only exists in virtual reality would one-day out-trump gold in its value? However, it has not been without its problems – the words Mt. Gox come to mind.

But with each disaster comes new and improved mechanisms to protect Bitcoin users. Now, nearly a decade on from its inception, Bitcoin is being taken seriously as a mainstream means of transaction. That is good news for all those traders who have been holding on to their supply of Bitcoin until the right moment. Because the value of Bitcoin is sky high compared to fiat currencies, you could make a number of handsome purchases with it before even thinking about mining for more.

While Bitcoin has come a long way since its initial launch back in ’09, it still has a long way to go before reaching the same level of acceptance that most fiat currencies have.

In recent years, there has been a rising number of large corporations that have begun to accept Bitcoin as a legitimate currency for selling their products on the internet. However, the ever-fluctuating value of Bitcoin does not absolutely guarantee a healthy revenue stream for the company.

Anyway, let us take a look at some of those companies that have decided to include Bitcoin as means of conducting business transactions.

1. Overstock.com

It is worth mentioning Ovestock.com right at the top of our list since, in 2014, it became the first retailer on the internet to accept Bitcoin as a means of payment. As a customer, you can use Bitcoin to purchase anything from electronic devices to novelty items for the home. What’s more, it is not just Bitcoin that you can use but other prominent cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum, Monero, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, and Dash as well.

According to Bitcoin experts from HowWeTrade: “Overstock is one of the first big brands to accept bitcoin. You can purchase stock images easily using BTC. If you are already using overstock, then make sure you pay with crypto next time.”

2. Expedia

One of the world’s most frequented online travel agencies, Expedia was also among the first major companies to accept Bitcoin as a means of payment. They actually collaborated with Coinbase to make the new payment option available to customers. For now, the only thing you can pay for with Bitcoin at Expedia is a hotel booking. However, it is quite possible that Bitcoin payments will be extended to other services like flight bookings and travel activities.

3. eGifter

While Bitcoin is not a staple means of payment for every company selling products and services, you can instead pay in Bitcoin for their gift cards with eGifter.com. eGifter allows you to buy products from all kinds of popular online stores like Amazon, Sephora, Home Depot, and JCPenny.

Newegg

If you are tech nerd and you like paying for stuff in Bitcoin, you will be glad to know that Newegg now accepts Bitcoin as a payment option. Newegg has managed this by teaming up with BitPay. However, this payment option may not be available for products from other sellers that are sold on Newegg’s site. What’s more, there are quite a few purchases for which Newegg does not accept Bitcoin. They include:

  • Marketplace items
  • Newegg Gift Cards (digital)
  • Premier memberships
  • Pre-orders
  • Return shipping labels
  • Subscription orders
  • Will Call orders

Dish

Dish is a satellite TV and internet service provider. It has been accepting payments in Bitcoin since August 2014, making it the first subscribed television provider to do so. It is also one of the largest. The option to pay in Bitcoin has since been made available to customers who want to make a one-time payment on mydish.com. For purposes of trading in Bitcoin, Dish has teamed up with Coinbase to facilitate its transactions with Bitcoin.

While you can now use Bitcoin to fund your Microsoft account, you can only use it to purchase certain things like apps, games, and movies from either the Windows or Xbox store. You cannot use Bitcoin to make purchases from the Microsoft online store. Also, any Bitcoin that is deposited into your Microsoft account cannot be refunded.

Conclusion

These are just a few examples of fairly large corporations that have made Bitcoin a legitimate payment option for customers. But the list continues to grow!

CryptoCurrencyNews Exclusive | Plastic Surgeons Now Accept Bitcoin

As the cryptocurrency marketplace continues to become more mainstream, various industries continue to adapt and begin accepting various forms of payment.

Cue-in Mia Aesthetics and Dr. Sergio Alvarez out of Miami, Florida. Dr. Alvarez’s practice is the first in Florida (and one of the first across the United States) to start accepting Bitcoin as a form of payment for various procedures, and his clients (both celebrity and local/international patients) love the idea and travel to his offices because of this “additional payment method”.

We sat down with Dr. Alvarez for an exclusive Q&A to learn more about his passion for helping people feel their best, and why patients using Bitcoin has been worth it for them and their cosmetic procedures…

What were your original motivations for getting into the medical field?

After seeing my first open heart surgery at the age of 10, I knew then that there was nothing else I wanted to do than to be a surgeon. The ability to know what I wanted in a career at such a young age gave me the ability to focus and achieve my goals by the age of 32. Plastic surgery got my attention during medical school due to the fact that it was not only the most competitive specialty to get into and the surgeons training me were revered as “the best”, but it was the ability to work on every part of the body and really focus on the “art form” that captured me. It was the finesse that it required that captivated me.

How long have you been practicing and in what specific areas of concentration?

I have been working for 9 years, concentrating on cosmetic plastic surgery.

Are most of your patients local to Miami, or are there many who travel from out of town seeking your services?

Approximately 90 percent of patients travel from out of town. This ranges from the west to east coast but we also have international patients from Europe, Asia, and South America.

What constitutes the “perfect patient”?

I’m not sure there is a “perfect patient”, but the best patients are those interested in feeling better about their bodies, how they feel in their clothing, and how they express themselves with their new self-confidence

What is the best advice you have been given in your journey to being a successful board-certified doctor?

I think the best advice I got was from my father: “Do what you love and be the best you can be!”

When did you first become aware of cryptocurrency?

I was introduced to the cryptocurrency market by my anesthesia provider about 1 year ago. He became fascinated with its potential and it was something we spoke about during surgery day in and day out.

When did you start accepting Bitcoin as a form of payment for the medical services you provide?

We started offering Bitcoin as a payment option about 6 months ago. We have started to definitely get a lot of interest in this form of payment. I think people in this industry are seeing the potential of investing not only in this form of currency but as a way to use it to make their cosmetic procedures cheaper as Bitcoin continues to appreciate.

How does it feel to be one of the first practices in Florida to do so?

We are always seeking to be ahead of the curve so it’s always interesting to see the growth in all aspects of our business. It’s definitely a good feeling to be at the forefront of not only our industry but to expand our footprint into other industries.

How has the response been since first allowing this form of currency?

We continue to get a lot of inquiries about this method of payment and are sure to continue to grow this aspect of the business.

What main services of yours do people usually use Bitcoin as a form of payment for?

Most people use Bitcoin for surgical services but before long we will see people using it for accessories and ancillary services.

Do you feel in the future more medical practices will start accepting it?

I think this is the future and before long it will be the norm for most practices and industries.

Outside of work, do you trade cryptocurrency personally and follow it?

I do. Since I got into it I started trading different currencies and now I’m always looking for opportunities in ICO’s.

And finally, are there any plans to start accepting other forms of cryptocurrency?

Eventually yes. As the market becomes more accepting we hope to widen the coins accepted.
